i guess youve all heard the sad sad news about Steve Irwin.

Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin dead
September 04, 2006 02:14pm

The Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said today.

It is understood he was killed by a stingray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary when the tragedy occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

Irwin's body is being flown to Cairns.

It is believed his American-born wife Terri is trekking on Cradle Mountain in Tasmania and is yet to be told of her husband's death.

Irwin - known worldwide as the Crocodile Hunter - is famous for his enthusiasm for wildlife and his catchcry "Crikey!".

The father of two's Crocodile Hunter program was first broadcast in 1992 and has been shown around the world on cable network Discovery.

He has also starred in movies and has developed the Australia Zoo wildlife park, north of Brisbane, which was started by his parents Bob and Lyn Irwin.

Tributes have already started pouring in for the larger-than-life character.

Totally unexpected. He was easy to pay out, but man - what an Australia icon. He was so passionate about our country and he always embraced life and was so enthusiastic about everything he did. My heart and thoughts are with his wife and young family he is leaving behind.

Tutorial #1
One of the most important (and my favorite) aspects of icon making is picture quality. Without a good quality picture, your not going to achieve the best icon you can. The first 5 steps of this tutorial, we will be covering how to make your picture better!

I chose a prison break picture because they work really well with this effect.

01.	start with your base.
02.	sharpen your base.
03.	duplicate base and set blend mode to screen. adjust opacity if required. layer >> flatten image.
04.	duplicate new base. on the duplicated base use the blur tool to smooth the skin on the face. Use circular motions to ensure the blur tool is applied evenly. If the blur effect makes the face look too unrealistic change the opacity to your liking. layer >> flatten image.
05.	duplicate new base. on the duplicated base use the dodge tool to bring out the pupils in the eyes and if needed, the lips. All you have to do is click the pupil a few times with the dodge tool, you dont want to over do it. next, use the burn tool to highlight the eyelids, hair, lips and chin. Use the same method as you did with the dodge tool. next, use the sharpen tool to further sharpen and bring out the eyes, ears and lips. layer >> flatten image. yay! we've finished getting the image ready for the icon! this is the base you will be working with from this point onwards.
06.	duplicate base and set to screen. adjust opacity to 30%. however the opacity willbe dependent on the picture you're working with.
07.	make a new layer and fill with #003664. set to exclusion. adjust opacity to 85%
08.	make a new layer and fill with #9CC1DB. set to softlight.
09.	duplicate soft light layer and change blend mode to colour burn.
10.	duplicate base and set to hardlight
